Young, Ernst Lead Bill to Support Women and Families

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) introduced the Allowing Greater Access to Safe and Effective Contraception Act, legislation to promote access to and availability of safe contraception for women and families and ensure taxpayer dollars are not being spent to fund abortions.

“I am proud to join Senator Ernst in introducing the Allowing Greater Access to Safe and Effective Contraception Act. This bill will support women and families while ensuring taxpayer dollars are not used to fund abortions,” said Senator Young.

“In the face of Democrats’ radical abortion on demand, I am proud to provide women greater access to safe and effective birth control,” said Senator Ernst. “My bill will increase over-the-counter contraception options while bringing much-needed transparency and accountability to ensure the government uses tax dollars to support families.”

More specifically, the Allowing Greater Access to Safe and Effective Contraception Act would:

  • Increase availability of birth control options on the market;
  • Provide more access to over-the-counter contraception options;
  • Bring transparency to how government agencies are spending tax dollars to support women and families; and
  • Ensure tax dollars are not being used to fund abortions or abortion providers.

In addition to Senators Young and Ernst, Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W. Va.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), and John Cornyn (R-Texas) also joined the legislation.

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) is introducing companion legislation in the House of Representatives.
