Young Statement Following VA Nursing Home Visit

MARION, Ind. – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) today released a statement following his visit on Thursday to the Marion Veteran’s Nursing Home where he received an update on the facility’s low ratings uncovered by an investigation from USA Today and the Boston Globe.

“Yesterday, I visited the veterans nursing home in Marion to learn more about their recent troubling ratings and their plans for improvement. What’s clear after talking with leadership, staff, patients, and families is that a lack of transparency across the entire Veterans Administration is preventing all parties from fully understanding the true scope of the problems. I’m grateful for the staff members who care for our veterans daily, and Congress has a duty to set them up for success. We can start now by including reporting requirements in the VA spending bill that will soon be sent to the President. As the Marion facility executes its improvement plans, I will closely monitor their results,” said Senator Young

Last month, Senator Young co-sponsored an amendment to require the VA to make public detailed reports about the quality of care at these facilities. The Senate included the amendment in the bill funding the VA that passed the Senate and is now in conference committee.
