Young Statement on North Korea Summit

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the summit in North Korea:

“I congratulate President Trump and Secretary Pompeo on holding this historic summit, and for prioritizing diplomacy as a means to secure U.S. interests and avoid military conflict. The campaign of maximum diplomatic and economic pressure against North Korea played an important role in bringing us to this point. This summit represents an important first step, but there is much more work to do — and many issues to be resolved. The goal of the negotiations remains the same: the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I will follow negotiations closely to ensure that we reach a strong agreement with North Korea that is rigorously enforced.”
