Ban Swamp Trading

Recent polling shows that 86% of Americans favor banning members of Congress from trading stocks. I’ve heard from many Hoosiers who are rightly concerned about those serving in Congress unfairly profiting from their positions. I fully support a ban on stock trading by members of Congress, and I am supporting two bills to ensure such a ban becomes law. No one in Congress should benefit financially from public service and the trust placed in them by voters.

I am a cosponsor of the Restore Trust in Congress Act to stop insider trading by members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children through banning the ownership and trading of individual stocks. The bill is led by Senator Ashley Moody (R-Fla.).

I also am a cosponsor of the Stop Insider Trading Act, which would prohibit members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from purchasing publicly traded stocks and mandates a seven-day public notice period before any stock sales can be executed. This bill is led by Senator Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.).
